THE QUEEN: Approximately 850 guests enjoyed the hospitality of British Ambassador John Nichols and his wife Suzanne at their residence on Wednesday, June 14, for the annual garden party celebrating the Queen's birthday. Toasts were made to the Queen and the President of the Republic of Hungary, and the two national anthems played, but the day was much more about informal networking, this year to the accompaniment of the Royal Artillery Band. By the end of the evening, a very British downpour had descended.

IN apt weather conditions that started off breezy and eventually turned to rain, Budapest's British community celebrated the annual Queen's Birthday Party (a sort of unofficial national day, although it is not a holiday in the UK) at the British Ambassador's residence on Wednesday, June 8, with ambassador John Nichols and his wife Suzanne acting as hosts. As usual the garden at the residence, where the guests were sheltered from the worst of the weather by a large marquee, was the centre of attention for the evening, although the RAF band provided musical entertainment from a smaller tent to the side of the residence.

Task 2

Read the two news items and compare them contentwise. Discuss the following questions with your partner.

  1. Which news item do you prefer?

  2. Which photo do you prefer?

  3. What is the major difference between the two articles?

  4. Imagine that you are the editor of Budapest Sun. Which article would you publish and why?
