Talk by Prof. Claire Kramsch, 2013

On Tuesday, 29 January 2013 Professor Claire Kramsch (University of California at Berkley) gave a talk at DELP on: "Re-framing the cultural component of foreign languages in an era of globalization"

She talked about:
- the impact of globalization on FL teaching
- supplementing Michael Byram's model of intercultural competence
- the MLA 2007 Report's injunction of developing transcultural competence
- the pedagogical implications of viewing both competences as fundamentally symbolic
- and of making symbolic competence an overarching objective in intercultural education.
