Lecture by Alison Drury, 2018

On 26 April, 2018 Ms Alison Drury, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian Embassy in Vienna, visited the Faculty of Humanities.  She attended lunch with the dean of the Faculty, Gábor Sonkoly, the head of the School of English and American Studies, János Kenyeres and deputy vice dean for international affairs, Krisztina Károly, who is also the head of the Department of English Language Pedagogy, home of the Australian Studies Programme. The Programme was represented by Cecilia Gall and Dorottya Holló. We discussed possibilities to enliven inter-university relations between Australian universities and the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE.

Following this, Ms Drury gave a public lecture. After conducting an interactive trivia game about Australia, she talked about the Foreign Policy White Paper, explaining that Australia's  approach to the world is based on - among other things - values related to liberal democracy, human rights, global cooperation, stability, the rule of law and sustainable development. She also answered the students' questions. These focussed on multiculturalism in Australia, the life of Indigenous people and Australian - Hungarian bilateral relations.
